HIt the road...........

We did it! Don and I hit the road on Friday evening, and I mean evening. Headed toward Chitna, Alaska. I have never been to Chitna with Don, but this time I was going. I had a great college gal come and sit the kids while we were gone. and we hit the road running. We used to do this all the time before kids on the weekends. We wouldn't know where we were going or where we were staying, (one time we woke up to loads of cows mooing at us, I guess we were on thier land). We toured the pony express trail. Ate MRE's on a rock with numerous bugs. Did some ghost town hunting and saw indian petrogliffs. Camping in June and getting snowed on. There are more stories I just can't think of them all. This time we didn't know what our itineray was except we were going to chitna to dip net for salmon. We didn't know where we would stay or land. It was so much fun!
The river was very high, fishing wasn't that good. We did get 14 fish to add to the 3 we already had from the previous trip that Don took with the boys two weeks ago. We ended up leaving chitna and traveled to Valdez, Alaska. Very nice place. We really liked it there. The boys did the kids fishing derby while they were there. This weekend was the woman's fishing derby, but I didn't partake in that. I did however catch a salmon by myself with the net. Don had just caught a salmon and was taking care of it. I put the net back in the water and a second later I had a fish in the net. How fun was that! It was my only fish but it was neat. After that we left. For some reason uncertain to what it actually was my shoulder took a hit of pain. We don't have an idea of what it was, but I was looking for advil and tylenol now. We did find a store that carried it. It could have been one of the following: Trying to put this enonormous net in a raging river, climbind down the side of the hill with a rope, carring things up the hill, or helping don push the 4 wheeler trailer onto the big trailer, with fish inside. So we were unsure what the calpret was. But there was no way I was tenting it the second night. I was in too much pain. So, we got a room in valdez. I was still in pain until the morning.

We cleaned our fish, or I should say Don cleaned the fish, Walked the docks with coffee in hand while holding hands and waiting our turn to get the boat that we would like. The scenery was beautiful clear skies. Unbelievable. I was so amazed. We saw two black bear trying to get some salmon.

All in all we had a great time.
